"Mit und Gegen" by Wassily Kandinsky

"Mit und Gegen" (For and Against) was painted around 1929 by Russian painter, Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky lived from 1866 - 1944 and is considered one of the first modern abstract artists. Many of his paintings were influenced by music. I have several favorites, but I really love the composition and especially, the red background in this one.

"Goldfish" by Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French painter, draftsman, printmaker and sculptor. He is considered to be the most influential French painter of the 20th century. "Goldfish" is my favorite of Matisse' paintings. I remember it from an exhibition of his work I attended at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC in 1986.

"Spring in the Tesuque Valley" by Gustave Baumann

Gustave Baumann was a German-born printmaker and painter born in 1881. The last fifty years of his life were spent in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he died in 1971. A few years ago, someone gave me some greeting cards with images of his prints. I was not familiar with his work at that time, but was thrilled, because I always loved woodcut prints. I love his Southwestern scenes and this one is especially beautiful.
